Aren't they lovely? I was nominated to decorate the Relief Society Christmas tree for our church Christmas party. The different auxiliaries are having a decorating contest and everything needs to be homemade. I found these beauties on pinterest and thought I'd give them a try.
Once I popped the balloons they shrunk and collapsed the strings.
I tried using scissors and painstakingly loosened every piece of string before popping the balloon. It still didn't hold it's shape.
I think maybe I used the wrong kind of string. I used yarn instead. That was the only thing I did different so I'm guessing that was the problem.
Has anyone else make successful String Ornaments?

did you use liquid starch or glue?! And I wonder if cotton crochet thread would work better.???
Good luck! Can't wait to see the finished product. :)
I would bet it was the string. When I look at the first pic it looks like something a little sturdier, like the string my grandma used to make doilies with (if I even spelled that right).

I have made these before. I think I used white glue. It would have to be completely dry You might try spraying the balloons with PAM.
The same thing happened to me with the glue because it did not dry completely. When I gave up and just left them sitting for 2-3 days it worked. But then I tried the liquid starch and it worked perfect even with yarn.
