M&M Rainbow Cake

My son Austin turned four on September 5th. I asked him what color cake he wanted for his birthday but he kept changing his mind. Then he told me he wanted all the colors. I found this cake and knew Austin would love it.

If you are going to make a cake like this then you should know a few things. Don't put meringue powder in your icing. It will make the icing dry faster and the M&Ms won't stick. It is also helpful to have two people placing the M&Ms on the cake. My husband and I cranked this thing out in about 15 minutes. Oh and you should also know that the M&M party bag I bought did not have as many red or yellow M&Ms in the bag.

Service Quilt

I finished another quilt. That is two quilts this month, along with a few other projects. I made the quilt for the Hope Outreach Center. The Hope Outreach Center services all of Broward County. They focus specifically on the Elderly. They have a food bank and they also help with utilities and helping with home repairs for the Elderly Citizens in the community. They service about 100 people a day.

I originally was going to make a lap quilt but I had plenty of fabric so I made it a twin. I cut each block 8 inches square.

I've had the fabric in my stash for about a year and a half. It all came together in a quilt kit with a pattern from my friend Marlene. I didn't have time to do the pattern it came with but I love how there are so many different patterns and colors but they all go together.

These are my quilt quality testers.

I think it passed.

Herringbone Quilt

This quilt is very special to me. The fabric used to belong to my friend Adela who recently passed away. I used all the cotton fabric she left me to make this lap quilt. I made this quilt for my close friend, Adela's daughter. I can't wait to give it to her.

I used my walking foot on my sewing machine to quilt it. I cut all the fabric into 2 and a half inch strips and then used this tutorial to make each block.
